US military deaths in Afghanistan region at 508
As of Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at least 508 members of the U.S. military had died in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. foray of Afghanistan in late 2001, according to the Defense Department. The department last updated its figures Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.
Of those, the military reports 362 were killed by hostile action.
Outside the Afghan country, the Defense Department reports 65 more members of the U.S. military died in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Of those, two were the ensue of hostile action. The militia lists these other locations as Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba; Djibouti; Eritrea; Ethiopia; Jordan; Kenya; Kyrgyzstan; Philippines; Seychelles; Sudan; Tajikistan; Turkey; and Yemen.
There were also four CIA officer deaths and person army civilian end of life.

- Army Staff Sgt. David L. Paquet, 26, Rising Sun, Md.; died Wednesday at Combat Outpost Vegas, Afghanistan, of undetermined causes as long as conducting a patrol; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
